Corydalis Yanhusuo Extract

Product Description

What is Corydalis Yanhusuo Extract?

Corydalis Yanhusuo Extract (Latin name: Corydalis yanhusuo W. T. Wang / Rhizoma Corydalis), a high-quality standardized botanical raw material, is extracted through strict manufacturing processes according to ISO/GMP standards, and its global manufacturing processes ensure that only high-quality rhizomes from Corydalis are used. The naturally occurring isoquinoline alkaloids found in this product, of which L-tetrahydropalmatine (L-THP), dehydrocorydaline, and corydaline are the principal ones, ensure consistent batch-to-batch uniformity, processability, and rigorous quality control, while the product is produced as a fine brown-yellow to light yellow powder. The material is ideal for the formulation of global products, nutraceuticals, functional foods, and personal care applications, and is available in a wide range of extraction ratios (up to 4:1, 10:1, and 20:1) and a high-purity isolated specification (up to 98% L-THP). It has excellent solubility and physical stability properties that make it an excellent core active ingredient for oral solid dosage forms such as capsules, tablets, fine powder blends, liquid tinctures, and clean label cosmetic formulations. It is a comprehensive botanical ingredient that is systematically assessed for heavy metals, residual pesticides, and microbiological safety to meet all regulatory requirements for global markets, enabling enterprise customers to develop high-quality wellness products to promote natural soothing, relaxation, and balance.

Features

The physico-chemical properties of Corydalis Extract are remarkable and designed to meet the technical requirements of a product formulator or formulation developer in today's OEM/ODM production environment. Its uniform, fine, non-caking powder form (typical bulk density 0.40 - 0.60 g/mL) and moisture control (< 5.0%) provide excellent flowability, minimal electrostatic charge, and smooth compressibility characteristics that make it suitable for direct-compression tableting, hard-capsule filling, and dry-powder premixes. Its chemical content is characterized by a high concentration of lipophilic isoquinoline alkaloids, most importantly L-tetrahydropalmatine, dehydrocorydaline, and corydaline, that are of particular thermal stability up to the standard hot-melt processing temperatures, which guarantees stability during high-shear granulation, thermal drying, and pasteurization steps. Standardized water-soluble water/ethanol extract grades are highly soluble in liquid organic matrices and slightly acidic liquid matrices, while keeping their dispersion properties free of heavy sediment, thus being very suitable for oral liquids, functional beverages and topical emulsions. The optimum range of pH (4.0 – 6.5) can easily be optimized to ensure stability of the active compound and reduce the risk of cross-reactivity with strong anionic excipients, while offering clean labelling opportunities for complementary botanicals and functional polymers in various formats for delivery across the globe.

How to Store Properly?

1. Maintain Original Sealed Packaging:

Ensure the raw material is packed and kept in the original unopened factory packaging – the inner dual-layer polyethylene package is packed with food-grade material and is tightly closed, preventing oxygen in the ambient environment from affecting the raw material.

2. Control Temperature and Thermal Levels:

Drums should be kept in a cool, climate-controlled warehouse with temperatures maintained below 25°C (77°F) and away from any active heating equipment, steam lines or direct radiant source which might lead to degradation of alkaloids or condensation of moisture in the drum.

3. Manage Ambient Relative Humidity:

Keep storage areas at low relative humidity (RH < 60%) to prevent moisture absorption; high humidity can cause agglomeration, bulk density changes, and cause issues with Corydalis Yanhusuo Rhizome Extract flow during capsule filling or tableting at high speed, as the powder is fine.

4. Protect against Direct Light Exposure:

Store drums in a dry, dark part of the facility, away from direct sunlight, high-intensity UV lamps, and unshielded plant lighting, which will help to maintain the stability and colour uniformity of sensitive isoquinoline alkaloid markers, such as L-THP.

5. Follow FIFO and Resealing Protocols:

Implement strict First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory control, and when a drum needs to be partially opened for sampling or batch preparation, immediately blow out any trapped air, retie the inner double liner tightly, and ensure strict sealing of the outer drum lid for sealing integrity.

Recommended Usage

1. Hard Capsules:

Pre-screen powder through a 60-80 mesh screen and blend with microcrystalline cellulose and 0.5-1.0% colloidal silicon dioxide in a low-shear V-blender to prevent static charge and to ensure uniform fill weights.

2. Tablets:

Use with powders or granules that are soluble and can be compressed, such as MCC, and disintegrants such as croscarmellose sodium. If granulation is done by wet granulation, ensure that thermal drying is kept below 65°C to avoid the loss of heat-sensitive alkaloid markers such as L-THP.

3. Oral Liquids & Tinctures:

Dissolve in a pre-dissolved warm hydro-alcoholic or glycerin co-solvent system at a pH of 4.5 – 5.5. Use high-shear in-line homogenization and filtration for long-term clear filter performance without settling.

4. Functional Powder Blends:

Use geometric dilution when mixing with carriers such as maltodextrin; use flavour masking and anti-caking agents to optimize flavour and anti-caking properties.

5. Gummies & Chewables:

At the end of cooking (less than 80 °C), under constant stirring, it is necessary to add the pre-solubilised active mixture to maintain the controlled acidic matrix (pH 3.8 – 4.5) in which the active markers will be protected during setting.

6. Topical Creams & Gels:

Pre-disperse in aqueous or glycol phase before emulsification: use non-ionic surfactants for smooth and homogeneous incorporation into personal care bases.

FAQ

Q1: What specifications and standardization levels are available?

A: We provide standardised ratios (4:1, 10:1, 20:1) and highly purified isolated specs, which can be up to 98% L-Tetrahydropalmatine (L-THP) with full HPLC verification.

Q2: What quality documentation accompanies each commercial order?

A: Each shipment comes with a full COA with details of all active alkaloid content, heavy metals, residual pesticides, and microbiological test results (according to ISO/GMP).

Q3: Is this extract suitable for liquid formulations and beverages?

A: Yes. Water-soluble grades are available. To achieve the highest clarity, pre-dissolve in hydro-alcoholic or glycol carriers at a pH range of 4.5-5.5.

Q4: What is the shelf life and standard bulk packaging format?

A: Has a shelf life of 24 months. Standard bulk packaging is commonly 25 kg/fiber drum, with double-sealed inner polyethylene bags which are designed to provide moisture protection.

Q5: How should formulators manage thermal stability during processing?

A: Avoid high temperatures (drying or heating) in granulation since the heat-sensitive alkaloid markers, such as L-THP, may be degraded.
